The closed Cinémathèque Française – Palais de Chaillot near Avenue Albert de Mun, Paris, France. In 1960s the Cinémathèque Française was located in the basement of the right wing of the Palais de Chaillot. In February of 1968 the Cinémathèque founder and Truffaut's idol Henri Langlois was fired by Culture Minister André Malraux – a move that caused local and international uproar (Bernardo Bertolucci depicted those protests in the beginning of The Dreamers.) Truffaut, Godard and many other filmmakers came to Langlois' defense and he was reinstated. In 1974, he received an honorary Academy Award for his lifetime work in film preservation and died three years later. The Cinémathèque has since then moved to 51 Rue de Bercy in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.
